Something special

Just on the outskirts of Orgiva is a hidden garden with the most attractive cave cottage and fabulous swimming pool.

At a glance: bedrooms: 2, sleeping: 4 || Distance: 1 km from town || Walk to town: 20 minutes

A traditional cave cottage

This pretty little house has been restored with many original features preserved.

This delightful cottage has been carefully renovated, keeping the traditional character of the property, it even features a ‘cave’ bedroom’. The cottage layout is all on one level, but there are steps from the drive down to the entrance of the house and the gardens and pool are built on terraces.

The house is just off the main road going into town, simple to find, along an easy track with no immediate next door neighbours.

You can park your car on the property and enter directly into the living room from the sunny veranda which runs along the length of the cottage front.

The whitewashed living room has a rural Andalucían flavour, charming and full of character. There is an authentic open fire in the corner, but there is also a wall-mounted heater/air conditioning unit for convenient temperature control.

Entertainment is provided in the form of a TV (with satellite and internet channels), DVD player and sound system.

Charming rural living

The décor has been carefully considered to be in keeping with local traditions.

The twin bedded room is off the living room and leads through directly to the double bedded room. All the beds in the house are appealing and have cotton bedlinen.

The double ‘cave’ bedroom, like the twin has direct access to the outside sun terrace which runs along the length of the whole house. The bed is in the cave itself, all cosy and snug and lit from within. Like the twin room, there is storage space in a built-in wardrobe. A lot of light comes in from the window and glass-panelled door to the terrace which opens in the direction of the grapevine-covered veranda.

The terrace extends out to form a suntrap where you can lounge under umbrellas with a book, basking in the warmth and enjoying the peace.

The kitchen is clean and new and decorated to a high standard. The smart cream units are in a country cottage style, very much in keeping with the rest of the house. Dry basic goods like coffee and sugar are provided, as is local organic olive oil.

A garden oasis

Let’s talk about the outside … the pool and gardens are amazing.

The swimming pool is a sparkling aqua gem, set in a neatly kept lawn, soft and springy for bare feet. Access to the water is by gentle steps to a shallow half-moon section, ideal for young and old, before continuing to the rest of the rectangular pool (6.5 x 3.5 m).

The pool terrace is gated for peace of mind if you are holidaying with young children.

All around the pool are orange trees (you can pick the fruit), roses and mature trees which offer plenty of shade. As well as sunbeds, there is a little table for drinks and snacks, it really is as perfect as can be.

For children there is a play area, with a swing, but they are sure to enjoy exploring all the hidden corners and extensive grounds (2400 m2) which surround the cottage.

Although on the edge of town, you feel like you are in the country, you are in a peaceful ‘green bowl’, your own oasis of calm.

Away from the cares of the world

Nestled in your green hideaway, your holiday time is your own.

The bathroom in this house has a half-size bathtub with a shower over, a marble topped washbasin and WC. It’s all impeccably clean and the Moorish-tiled splashback in the bath/shower adds a stylish touch. The room is lit by a long frosted window and a smaller window lets in air.

The location of the house is very convenient being close to the town of Orgiva. Here you’ll find all the amenities you’ll need: shops, banks, restaurant and bars.

The house and gardens have everything you could want for a relaxing holiday, but it might be that you’d like to see a bit more of Andalucía.

Orgiva is in a good position to pick up the motorway running to the coast and inland to Granada. The beach at Salobreña is less than 45 minutes’ drive away and the city of Granada is an hour’s drive.

The cottage is available all year so you can take advantage of every beautiful season this region has to offer.

The region of Las Alpujarras is dramatic and varied. From the snowy ski resort of Sierra Nevada (with the highest peak on mainland Spain) to its sunny Mediterranean beaches, there is so much on offer. Here you'll find living history in its unique mountain villages, wild beauty in its National Park and cultural riches in its city of Granada - the Granada of Lorca, of gypsy flamenco, and the Alhambra - the most romantic Moorish palace in the world.
