Gardens tended with love

The owner of this property is a keen gardener so the grounds are well maintained and cared for. The trees and flowers are all there for you to enjoy.

AL24_04

This 200-year-old country cottage has been lovingly restored by its English owners—the oldest part of the building, originally the stables, has been transformed into an attractive holiday-home.

Only a five minute drive from Orgiva and near the tiny hamlet of Tijola, you arrive at this lovely, private cottage. A steep driveway brings you to your parking spot and through the gates into a stunning oasis of lush gardens. Although the owner lives next door, and is on hand if needed, she is in no way intrusive. You have the spectacular pool and gardens all to yourselves.

The gardens are fantastic, we are sure you will spend most of your time relaxing outdoors. The gardens are spread out over four terraces. A choice of seating areas strategically placed allows you to enjoy the sun or shade depending on the time of day, or as your fancy takes you.

Traditionally ``Alpujarreño``

The house is full of character. Thoughtful restoration has used some original old features which add to its charm.

The cottage is all on one level, one enters into the entrance hall and through to the open plan kitchen /diner- living space. It’s all cosy and cheerful with a cottage-style kitchen and a dining table seating six (a highchair is available). A glass-fronted wood burner is for cooler months.

Under the wall plaster you still trace the shapes of the original centuries-old stonework. The whitewashed walls contrast with the many wooden features and the dark floor tiles. Translucent glass bricks let in lovely coloured light throughout the day.

Although the cottage is full of original character, it’s has everything you need for modern comfort.

Wifi internet is available throughout the house and into some parts of the garden.

For entertainment a micro hi-fi system is provided (iPod/iPhone player, USB port/CD/mp3/radio) as well as a flatscreen TV with USB and HDMI ports (so you can bring favourite films or programmes on a memory stick). There is a DVD player with a selection of family-friendly DVDs as well as books and board games.

Rise and shine!

The dining terrace catches the morning sun. Al fresco with sunshine ... breakfast has never been so good.

AL24_06

From the living room double doors open onto a covered terrace, furnished with benches, tables and chairs.

The dining terrace catches the morning sun and then is in shade for the rest of the day. It is the ideal spot for most of your meals and perfect for relaxing, en familia, with one of the many board games provided or simply a book and a glass!

The bedrooms are two singles and one double. The double is a good sized room with access to a private terrace, draped in bougainvillea, it is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet moment away from the world.

All bedrooms have mosquito netting at the windows and electric fans are provided to keep you cool in the summer. A travel cot can be provided if requested.

A fun pool for everyone

The swimming pool is a delight with its pergola, palm tree and flowers. Whole days can be spent here, playing, reading and sleeping in the sun.

The house has two bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower cubicle, the other with a shower over a small tub. Both bathrooms are in keeping with the good standard of the house and have original touches such as a stained glass window and the traditional ceramic Alpujarran hand basin. All these touches have been carefully considered to create a peaceful and relaxing setting for young and old(er) alike.

And then at the top of the garden, there is the swimming pool, gated and walled making it safe for children. It is an oasis within an oasis—surrounded by greenery, a giant palm tree providing shade, the scent of flowers and birdsong all around.

The location of the house is so convenient, not just for local shops (Orgiva with all amenities, including its Thursday market, is a 5 minute drive/30 minute walk) but for day trips too. Orgiva Tea Garden with llamas, peacocks and other pets (open on Wednesdays) is close by. There are plenty of easy walks round and about.

Salobreña beach is only half an hour’s drive away and Granada with its must-see Alhambra Palace is under an hour’s drive.
