Follow the river
The Guadalfeo winds its way towards Salobreña and the Mediterranean coast in the distance.
This charming 3 bedroom property perches above the flat plains created by the river Guadalfeo on its way to the sea. The main road out of the town of Órgiva will lead you to the house. When you reach the end of the main road (about 5 kilometres) you start a little climb and within another couple of kilometres, you arrive at the property.
Coming down the short driveway, you arrive at a parking area with ample room for two or three cars, slightly away from the house. Walking down from here you will find the large inviting pool to the left and the main entrance porch of the house to the right.
The main interior living area of the house is open plan and entering through the main door of the house brings you into the dining area with the lounge leading off to the right.
Superb views of the countryside
The main bedroom has a terrace with amazing views of the river bed ‘vega’ below and the mountains of the Contraviesa beyond.
Directly behind the living room is the well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen opens out through a wide arch looking down onto the dining area, ideal for continued chat over a glass of ‘vino’ whilst you prepare the evening meal. The dining area can seat six people, but on lovely summer evenings you will probably prefer to be outside on the cool terrace catching the last of the Sierra breeze coming up from the valley below.
The lounge is spacious and comfortably accommodates all guests. For cooler periods, there is a fireplace that provides plenty of heat and a nice focal point during the evening. If things are a little too warm in the summer, the air-conditioning can provide some well needed freshness following an afternoon at the pool.
The property has three good sized bedrooms. The main bedroom is a double room with the bed raised on a plinth. The lower part of the room leads directly to the en suite shower.
Fantastic views of the valley
The house offers an atmosphere of great warmth with the sound of birds in the distance.
The second bedroom is also a double room, which also serves as a second lounge—should you wish to have some ‘me’ time to just read or look out over the valley below. This room has a decorative fireplace, not functional, and not necessary in colder months as the house has central heating.
The third bedroom has twin beds. Ideal for the kids or two people happy to share a room.
Outside is a delight. With well-established gardens and a fantastic swimming pool, there are plenty of shaded areas to relax in. The flat valley area in the distance below the house is agricultural, producing vegetables for the local town as well as olives for oil produced locally in one of the many mills dotted around this area.
Full of activities
This area has plenty to enjoy, near and far.
If you feel active, but don’t want to get the car out, you are only a short way from the crossroads of three rivers (the Trevelez, the Poqueira and the Guadalfeo) with many paths and walks to be taken directly from the house. You can drive further along the track you arrived on until the road ends, checking out the valleys and the streams as you go.
For fans of the ‘Driving over Lemons’ books, this valley is a stone’s throw from Chris Stewart’s farm. You may catch Chris driving into town, he’s always ready for a cheery wave and hello.
If you are adventurous and fairly fit, you could put on some good trainers and head down into the valley—walk along the riverbed all the way into town—where you will find many a good bar for a cool beer and tasty tapas.
Further afield, it is only a short trip to the coast, or if you want to explore deeper into the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, then there are the famous white villages to see. Pretty Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira in one direction or the famous ‘Jamon Serano’ village of Trevelez, high in the mountains.
