A short distance from Orgiva, along the edge of the riverbed, a narrow country lane runs through rows of eucalyptus trees and out into the lush countryside. Here, hidden within an orchard of avocado and all types of citrus fruit, is this lovely three bedroom family home.

Coming through the gates, marvel at the natural beauty all around you before parking among the trees. This is not a manicured garden, here the trees and undergrowth are left free to grow, the result is one of richness and green abundance.

Set back slightly from the lane, a brick path brings you up to a cane-covered patio that wraps itself around the house. With many potted plants, a grapevine, a water fountain, a low wall surround and several seating and dining areas, it is a charming feature.

Stepping though the front door you enter into the living area. To the right is a well-equipped, spacious kitchen with a dining table and tons of sunlight flooding in through the windows. To the left is the lounge area with two double-seater sofas and comfy chairs arranged around a coffee table. A glass-fronted stove will come in handy on the cooler evenings and a flat-screen TV will keep you entertained.

At the far end of the room French windows open onto the covered terrace. Here there is a dining table and barbecue, making the terrace a first choice for outdoor living.

An arch leads through to the stairway to the upstairs and to the only ground floor bedroom. This is a large double/twin bedroom which also has a single sofa bed. Just across the corridor from the bedroom is a spacious, light-filled bathroom with pretty wall tiles.

Between the mountains and the sea

A relaxing oasis of peace and calm.

Upstairs are the other two bedrooms, both are double, both are bright and airy. There is an interconnecting door that can be opened, making it ideal for a family with children who would like connecting rooms; or the door can be closed for privacy. One of the rooms has an additional single bed that can be used as a sofa or a child’s bed. The shower room on this floor is shared by both bedrooms.

To the front of the house is a superb sun terrace with a cane canopy. This is the very place in which to sit back and contemplate how good life is, with the surrounding panorama of mountains and sky in all its glory.

From the first floor, at the back of the house, a door opens onto a little terrace and a path leading to the irresistible (10m x 5 m) swimming pool. The pool is set in a grassy bank fringed with lavender and a hedgerow of fig, avocado, olive and orange. It uses to full advantage the gorgeous views across the vega, past Orgiva’s church bell towers and the white villages on the mountainside. The (often snow-capped) distant peaks of Sierra Nevada stand out in sharp relief against the sky – it is a blissful scene for a pool setting!

Although there is plenty of natural shade, you will also find parasols and sun loungers around the pool. You will no doubt spend many a happy hour here, enjoying a swim enhanced by the splendid, leafy greenery all around you.

A walkway runs around the back of the house from the pool area, and down to the barbecue terrace. It has all been thoughtfully planned for comfortable family living.

Whatever the time of year this is a wonderful holiday location. It is perfect for all sorts of holiday activities: the beaches of Costa Tropical are only 30 minutes drive away, historical Granada and the ‘can’t be missed’ Alhambra is only 45 minutes’ drive away. Or perhaps venture up into the mountain villages and all the treasures to be found there – the wonderful walks in and around the area are endless.

If you don’t want to drive you can walk into Orgiva, it is 1.5 kms to the centre of town … and a refreshing drink!

We had a very good week in this house. It is very comfortable with some terraces around. Every day we enjoyed the garden with its fruit trees and the swimming pool. Unfortunately we had to leave after a week…..

To those who want to explore the secret parts of Andalusia and enjoy the serene countryside, this is the house to rent. With a large, deep pool and a huge garden, it is ideal for family with kids. The house is charming, cool in the summer heat and with two floors perfect for both parents and kids. The land lord and his wife are welcoming and is a very warmth acquaintance – the couple will help you with any questions you may have. Do as we did and rent the house for a terrific holiday at the Spanish coast.

Grande maison fraîche située dans un grand jardin planté d’orangers, citronnier, avocatiers et oliviers. L’endroit est calme. La piscine est magnifique. La maison est grande, dallée, carrelée, fraîche. Des moustiquaires partout, de très beaux volets, tout est organisé pour la quiétude de ses habitants. Résidence à une heure de Grenade, dans la sierra Névada et les Alpujarras. Le domaine du jamon. Merci au propriétaire, polyglotte, qui nous a si bien reçu et nous a ouvert son domaine.
