A real 'home from home'

This villa is not just a holiday property, it is a well cared-for home. The owners love this region and we are sure you will too.

This lovely cottage is situated just 15 minutes’ drive from the handsome hill town of Villanueva de la Concepcion with Malaga a further 40 minutes’ drive away to the south.

The approach to the house is through valleys of rolling farmland, rich in olive groves, seasonal crops and, in summer, a haze of yellow sunflowers. The imposing rocks of El Torcal form a breathtaking background.

The English owners love this area and whenever they can, they spend their time here. The house is therefore not just a ‘holiday’ home, it is a real ‘home from home’ as can be seen by the pristine furnishings and well maintained gardens. It’s hard to believe that this beautiful cottage was once a goat herder’s ruin! The property itself consists of a living room with dining area combined, kitchen and two bedrooms both with en suite bathrooms. There is plenty of parking space.

The cottage is on one level and both bedrooms lead off from the living room.

Restful colour schemes

The decor throughout the house is calm and tasteful.

AQ11-13

The living room is open plan incorporating the dining area. The walls and most of the furniture are white, combined with the two pale blue striped two-seater settees, the whole effect is one of elegance and calm.

There is a bookcase and small table with table lamp provided. Five windows allow in plenty light and uninterrupted views of the immediate countryside. A large 38” TV with satellite connection together with DVD player and selection of DVDs is available for your viewing pleasure. Internet connection is also available. A dining table and chairs in the living room are conveniently placed close to the kitchen access.

The living room leads onto a furnished veranda which in turn overlooks the garden and swimming pool.

The house has the benefit of central heating and ceiling fans throughout with additional free standing fans in the bedrooms.

A fabulous pool and colourful gardens

The villa has been designed for maximum enjoyment of the outdoors all year round. The pool sparkles in the summer and retractable glass turns the veranda into a winter conservatory.

The 8 x 4 m swimming pool is a real treat. The shallow end is 1.2m depth and is accessed via gentle steps. The deep end is 1.8 m depth. A poolside shower gets you refreshed before relaxing on one of the sun loungers provided and, if you find the sun a little too hot, sun umbrellas are on hand. The pool can be heated by advance request (there is an extra charge for pool heating) and has underwater night lighting for star-gazing dips.

The veranda is accessed from the living room and can be fully enclosed by glass sliding doors giving you the opportunity to be “snug” inside on cooler days but with quite the feeling of being outside. The veranda is furnished with two armchairs and a settee and also a coffee table. A dining table and chairs afford the opportunity to dine al fresco whilst enjoying the panoramic views of the breathtaking countryside.

Lazy days ahead

The house is set in such pretty surroundings and is so comfortable you'll not want to leave. It's an ideal villa in which to just rest and relax.

AQ11_05

If a restful day takes your fancy, why not relax on the veranda, reading a book, and taking in the idyllic surrounding scenery. There’s always the pool to tempt you if you get too warm. Time for a snack?

Local cheeses, especially the goats’ cheese from the local dairy, olives and wine will certainly whet your appetite. An afternoon nap will set you up for a warm, pleasant evening, dining al fresco around the barbecue or a little candlelit dinner on the veranda.

For making meals, the kitchen is well equipped with ample storage space, electric oven, 4-ring gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine together with large array of kitchen equipment such as toaster, kettle, coffee maker, food processor, iron and ironing board.

Small utensils for cooking and baking together with cutlery and crockery are supplied.

Bedrooms for sunrise and sunset

East or west, sleep is best!

AQ11_08

The larger double bedroom looks out onto the pool terrace and country landscape. It has an en suite bathroom with electric shower, toilet, hand basin with large mirror above and heated towel rail.

This bedroom has ample storage with its built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers and two bedside cabinets each with reading lamps. Like the living room, the décor is white with pale blue and white soft furnishings giving that restful ambience. With the window facing to the west, the evening sun floods into the room.

The second bedroom has two single beds and also has an en suite bathroom featuring a bath with overhead electric shower, toilet and hand basin. This bedroom sees you waking up to the morning sun shining through the east-facing window which overlooks the garden.

Hair driers are provided in each of the bathrooms.

Natural wonders

There are many attractions close to this villa. The limestone formations of El Torcal are nearby as is Europe's second largest flamingo population which nests in this region. Neither should be missed.

For nature-lovers, this area has many attractions and the main one must be El Torcal. This unique limestone phenomenon is a protected natural park. Walking trails are colour coded according to difficulty and allow visitors to view the many weird rock formations. El Torcal provides a habitat for various flora and fauna such as ibex, many species of birds of prey, reptiles and insects and wild orchids.

Another bird attraction is the lagoon Laguna Fuente de Piedra, which is home to one of the largest European flamingo populations. The flamingos arrive in spring to mate and rear their chicks.

The historical city of Antequera is a must-see. With its Moorish castle, Gothic churches and Roman baths you feel like you’re stepping back in time. Rich farmlands, irrigated by the Guadalhorce river, surround the town and make this one of Andalucia’s most fertile areas, producing crops of cereals, asparagus and olives.

Antequera is close to the motorway network, convenient for access to Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba for those who want to travel a little further afield. Of course Malaga is only an hour’s drive away for the airport.

More about this region

Antequera and its surrounds

The region of Antequera and its surrounds is authentic rural Spain, an important crossroads for thousands of years. Antequera is at the very heart of Andalucía not only geographically, but in spirit too as successive civilisations have all left their mark. The landscape here is of olives and sunflowers - and perhaps because it's off the usual tourist path, the local welcome is as warm as the sunshine.
