Located South of Granada in the Lecrin Valley, between the coast and the city

Pinos del Valle is surrounded by orange and lemon trees, olive and almond groves, and the occasional majestic pines as far as the eye can see.

Not far from Granada and not far from the coast, this is a perfect holiday location. Pinos del Valle is a quiet village in the hills with big old houses, narrow streets and alleyways, balconies adorned with an abundance of colourful plants, village plazas and hidden corners.

This impressive house must have been, in former times, the Casa Señorial, or manor house, of Pinos del Valle. It is grand yet inviting and extends over three storeys. The entrance from the street is directly opposite the village church, the 19th century Ermita de San Sebastian – which looks on over the square, the house, the village and down across the valley.

From the square you can follow your nose to one of the best bakeries in the area – people come from afar to buy their bread here. And just beside the church, is a butcher’s shop which also doubles as a well stocked village grocery store – with everything/anything you may need. There is a bar/restaurant within walking distance where you can enjoy drinks, tapas and very tasty local fare. You may find you don’t need to leave “El Valle” at all…

You enter the house by way of an impressive interior patio, complete with marble columns, lush potted plants and a central fountain from which comes the calming sound of trickling water.

Built in Moorish style, the rooms all lead off from this central patio. On the ground floor you have the living areas and one double bedroom. From the cosy living room is an archway which leads into the library where there is a good selection of books to choose from.

At the other end of the sitting room is the dining area with a long table that comfortably seats ten. From here, a few steps lead up to the only downstairs bedroom – a lovely white room with an en suite shower room. This bedroom has a door to a tiny interior patio with a perfect little tangerine tree in the centre.

A guest bathroom, laundry room (washer and dryer) and a boiler room complete the distribution of this floor.

The outdoor area of the house is a hidden, green oasis of delight for all the family.

Beyond the dining room is the well equipped kitchen with all its mod-cons, extensive work surfaces and with enough room for a breakfast table too. The kitchen doors lead out to a walled cobblestone courtyard, laid out in the traditional Spanish style. It’s just the place to enjoy your breakfast, lunch, dinner, perhaps a barbecue or just a refreshing drink under the shade of the giant parasol.

A secure garden gate in the patio wall leads to the cool, pool area. It is an unexpected treasure tucked away in its hidden corner, only overlooked by the house. From over the roof top, the church tower catches the eye.

Back to the central patio, stairs lead up to the first floor – with four en suite bedrooms (three doubles and one twin) and a sitting room. The long sitting room offers a variety of seating arrangements, a large TV, a DVD player and a stereo to which you can connect your iPad – iPod etc.

From the sitting room, a door leads to the master bedroom. This is a lovely room with double Juliette balconies looking over the courtyard and the pool. The en suite bathroom is reached by steps down and up, across a small landing, this landing also leads to a backstairs, a shortcut to the kitchen and out to the courtyard and pool.

The other bedrooms are two doubles and one twin – all en suite, all bright and all comfortable and welcoming. One of the bedrooms has internal windows, perfect for light (or late) sleepers.

The top floor is a stunning mirador/lookout. The fantastic panoramic views all around will have you spellbound! With seating areas, sofas and tons of space for everyone, you can enjoy a glass and look out over your own ‘kingdom’. From sunrise to dusk you can watch the swallows overhead, and once the sun has set, the warm Spanish night is perfect for stargazing.

This region is halfway between Granada city and Las Alpujarras—a superb location for Granada sightseeing, skiing and the beach combined with a pleasant semi-tropical climate. The Lecrín Valley played an important part in the Moorish kingdom of Granada and this region is rich with historical references to it. Most of the villages of the Lecrín Valley are on the banks of the Béznar Lake and there are many clearly marked hiking trails incorporating these little towns en route.
