Villa PG17 2 bedrooms, sleeping 2 or 4

From €1,100 To 1,200/ week

Stunning views of the Sierra Nevada

The highest mountains in mainland Spain are on the horizon. This renovated farm cottage is situated in olive groves, looking out to a dramatic vista.

At a glance: bedrooms: 2, sleeping: 2 or 4 || Distance: 1.5 kms from town || Walk to town: 20 minutes

Snowy peaks sparkle in the sun

From late November until early summer, the high mountains are white with snow. The sight is an unforgettable natural wonder.

The sun shines down on this charming cottage-style villa set in the heart of olive country. The views from the front of the house are superb with the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountain range dominating the horizon.

Although the house is located in a quiet corner of El Poniente Granadino (the small village of Ermita Nueva is nearby for basic groceries, bakery and a bar), Granada city and the Alhambra are only 45 minutes’ drive away. The villa is ideal for those who want a peaceful holiday, time to relax by their pool and please themselves by doing nothing in beautiful surroundings.

The house sleeps four with a double room on the ground floor and a double (can be made into twins) master bedroom on the first floor. Both bedrooms have en suite bathroom facilities. The decor of the house has a traditional, country-style feel with exposed ceiling beams, whitewashed walls and ceramics.

Bask in the sun all year round

Sunshine is virtually guaranteed in the summer but even in the depths of winter, there can be weeks of sun here.

The house has a veranda at the front which looks out to the private swimming pool and country landscape. The sides of the veranda are glazed to make a conservatory with these glass ‘doors’ being retractable to catch the breeze in the summer. The winter sunshine is trapped in the conservatory, making it a cosy place to sit and enjoy the view of the snowy mountains opposite. By the way, the birds in the photo are just stickers on the conservatory to prevent real birds from flying into the glass.

This inside-out room is furnished with wicker armchairs and a dining table for four. Here it feels like eating al fresco all year round.

You enter the house through the conservatory which opens directly into the sitting room. This parlour room leads through to the kitchen on the left and the twin bedded room to the right. A staircase from the living room goes up to the only first floor room which is the master bedroom.

A cosy cottage from rural times

The house has been renovated to keep some interesting original features intact.

The sitting room has a brick built hearth for open wood fires in the winter (the house also has the benefit of gas central heating and there are radiators throughout). It’s furnished with a circular dining table and chairs, small occasional table, armchair and two-seater sofa.

The room has a wall mounted TV and WiFi internet. Set in one wall with ceramics on display is a niche which still has an ancient stone sink, a reminder of the cottage’s rural past.

Today’s kitchen is light and bright and has a four-ring gas hob and electric oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. The house also has a washing machine.

The ground floor bedroom, which is a twin bedded room, has a walk-in closet, views to the side of the house and to the front pool terrace. The end suite bathroom has a shower unit, wc and hand basin.

Poolside relaxation and interesting days out

You may not wish to stir from your pool terrace, but if you do want to do some sightseeing you won't be disappointed with what this area has to show you.

The main bedroom and its bathroom take up the whole of the top floor. The double bed is king-sized (can be divided into two singles) and the bathroom has a walk-in shower. This bedroom has superb views to the mountains by day and of the moon at night.

We’ve saved the best bit till last—the swimming pool terrace at the front of the house is where you’ll want to spend your summer days lazing away.

Sunbeds are provided for you to relax in the sun, catch up on holiday reading with a cold drink and a snack.

There is a house next to the villa but it is only used occasionally by the owners and their outdoor space faces the other way from this property.

Your peaceful poolside time is in a spot only disturbed by birdsong and bees, but if you feel like seeing a bit more of Spain, there are some pretty places to explore close by. Montefrío is half an hour’s drive away and Priego de Cordoba 40 minutes’ drive. Both are worth spending a day to see. Granada itself is an iconic Andalucian city rightly famed for its culture, history, flamenco and the spectacular Alhambra which must not be missed.
