Villa PG18 2 bedrooms, sleeping 2 to 4

From €750 To 1,220/ week

Glorious sunshine in an unspoilt corner of Andalucía

This part of the world offers authentic rural Spain at its best, with a pace of life that's unhurried and friendly. Here you're off the main tourist track, but it's easy enough to get to the main sights of Granada.

At a glance: bedrooms: 2, sleeping: 2 to 4 || Distance: 2 km from town

A corner of authentic Andalucia

The landscape all around is a patchwork of olive trees and arable crops, it's a real taste of Spanish country life.

This villa is in a region that is a peaceful corner of unspoilt Andalucia. The Spanish experience here is one that is well off the tourist trail but is all the better for that. The way of life here is rural, authentic and friendly. The landscape all around is one of olive cultivation, the sun shines down on the miles of handsome trees, fattening the fruit to make the green-gold oil.

The house is an easy drive from the sleepy hamlet of Ermita Nueva (1.5 kms) which has a small supermarket for basic groceries, bakery and a bar. Alcalá la Real is 5 kms away and is a larger market town with all amenities.

The villa itself is set in a country location with a few other villas nearby but not next door. You drive up to the front of the house and leave your car there—there is space for at least two cars on the drive.

All on one floor

There are no steps or stairs to manage in this property as everything is all on one level. The house is furnished and equipped like a real home.

The villa opens onto a long hallway which runs directly to the large living room and pool terrace beyond. The house sleeps four, in two bedrooms, with each of the bedrooms having en suite bathroom facilities. The bedrooms are directly to the left and right of the entrance. One bathroom has a tub , the other bathroom has a walk in shower. Both bedroom are comfortable and of a good size.

The house does not have the feel of ‘just a holiday home’, it really is a home and has all the comfort and style of a well established country house. The villa is decorated with interesting artefacts and antiques, collected by the owner. Carved wooden figures of Santa Catalina and San Nicolas each grace a bedroom and the living room, and they suit the dignity of this property very well.

Grand (open) plan

In summer the open-plan layout lets breezes blow through. In winter a crackling open fire feels warm and welcoming.

The spacious and very comfortable living room has an open fireplace which is surrounded with armchairs and a big, leather sofa. When the fire is crackling away, the room is so cosy and snug, it feels quite grand.

The elegant dining table has room to seat more than four, and as the living room is semi-open plan with the kitchen, food can be oven-to-table-ready in seconds.

The kitchen is large enough to have its own dining furniture, a round table and dining chairs, if you ‘d prefer to eat less formally.

The kitchen is impressive for its space and has all the modern conveniences you’d expect to be able to make elaborate meals if you’ve a mind to. The owner is a good cook who appreciates that a well equipped kitchen is a necessity and the quality of the kitchen appliances show this.

A splendid pool terrace, the only place to be!

While the inside of the house is lovely, the pool and terrace is where you'll want to spend most of your holiday time. A shaded veranda is furnished for outdoor dining and the sunset views from the terrace are superb.

The living room opens directly to the pool terrace and to the glorious views of the countryside beyond. Along one side of the house, facing the swimming pool, is a covered veranda. It is delightful to have lunch here on a summer’s day, the sun twinkling on the glasses with just the sound of relaxed conversation. After lunch you can take a well deserved nap on a sun bed by the pool.

In the evening, the pool terrace is the place to be to admire the fabulous sunsets that this region is known for. More often than not you’ll be treated to stunning skies of flaming orange and red-gold, a phenomenon of air that is pure and dry.

The sunset is a dramatic backdrop for the silhouette of the fortress of La Mota. This medieval castle is a proud crown on the hilltop town of Alcalá La Real, the scene adds to the stunning panorama from the veranda.

Just below Ermita Nueva is the old Granada to Córdoba road, it’s very easy to visit either of these great cities from here. Granada is just 40 kilometres to the south (little more than half an hour away by car), with Córdoba being further away, but still an easy journey, 120 kilometres to the northwest.

Both cities are superb sites to see, capital cities of Moorish al Andalus, which for sophistication and culture were civilisations ahead of their time.

For those who want to relax in tranquil, country surroundings while enjoying homely comforts, this villa is an ideal choice.
