A stylish converted cottage

Original features from the old cottage have been preserved whilst providing modern comforts.

Originally a traditional, stone-built farm cottage, this villa was extended in 2006 in keeping with its rural surroundings. The result is a charming holiday house combining rustic features with all mod cons. All the rooms in this property are on one floor. The original cottage forms one bedroom (bedroom 1) and the kitchen/dining room. The new extension comprises the living room with the two double bedrooms leading off.

This villa is within walking distance of the very pretty mountain village of Gaucín (a ten minute walk, one minute drive) which is worth a visit for itself. Here you’ll find a good choice of bars and restaurants as well as handy amenities: shops for groceries, pharmacy and cash machines.

The villa is up a short dirt track (less than 1km long) from the main Gaucín road, entered by iron gates onto a stone drive.

Romantic night dining

Warm Spanish nights are made for eating al fresco. This villa has outdoor dining ... just keep the wine on ice.

The first thing you’ll see in front of the house is a covered dining area, bordered with rosemary. The marble topped table seats six and has been equipped with curtains and lights for night time dining – the perfect spot for eating al fresco. It’s easy to imagine the clink of glasses and the chirp of cicadas on warm Spanish nights. A swing sofa seat is provided for lazing during the day.

On entering the house, through the antique front door, you come in to the kitchen/diner. The kitchen is decorated in a traditional Spanish farm style with an open corner fireplace in the dining area. The kitchen has an electric four-ring hob and oven, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and twin bowl sinks. The dining table seats six.

To the left of the kitchen is a double bedroom (bedroom 1) with an antique bedstead, wardrobe and chair.

Light and bright

White walls and natural stone from the original cottage work well together, taking you back to traditional times.

Bedroom (1) has air conditioning and a window looking out to the front terrace. The bed may be a little small for two large adults but would be suitable for two older children. The bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, wc, bidet and basin. The outside wall of the original cottage has been kept for the living room – making an interesting stone feature and a reminder of past times.

The living room itself has a high, sloping ceiling with a high window, allowing light to flood in. An open fireplace is a focus for the room and there is plenty of space to relax, with three sofas and two chairs arranged around two coffee tables. The two doors leading to the bedrooms are antiques from Ronda and show beautiful carpentry in the local style. The house has wifi and a TV, Sony sound system and DVD player for your use.

Bedrooms for a sweet night's rest

After a hard day relaxing by the pool or exploring the local bars, you deserve a comfortable bed!

Bedroom 2 is a double with an en suite bathroom. This bedroom has the benefit of a wooden floor, two bedside tables, glass-topped table, built-in wardrobe and full length mirror. The window looks out onto the garden. The bathroom facilities comprise a walk-in shower, wc, bidet and washbasin.

Bedroom 3 is also a double and has a small foldaway bed which would be suitable for a small child. This room has a view to the front of the house. Like bedroom 2, it has two bedside tables, wooden floor and an en suite bathroom. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower over, wc, bidet and washbasin. The unusual bedhead, as in bedroom 2, is an example of forged artwork from Córdoba.

Both bedrooms have air conditioning. The house has the benefit of gas central heating throughout for winter rentals.

Poolside playtime

The pool terrace is surrounded by a lawned garden, making it ideal for bare feet big and small.

A Spanish holiday is not complete without a swimming pool to play in or just peacefully relax by. This villa has a turquoise pool in its garden (8 x 4 m and 1.2 -1.9m deep), and is somewhat unusual for having a lawn to absorb the heat of the summer sun.

Mature trees surround the property providing habitat for wild birds – the gentle sound of leaves and birdsong is a delight. Below the house and outside the garden is a little lane which takes you on a nice stroll through the woods.

Between the house and the garden is a brick barbecue with an outdoor sink and work surface for preparing outdoor meals. Lunch can be eaten close to the pool on the circular, mosaic table provided with four iron chairs and a sun umbrella for shade. Afterwards, recline on a sunbed and catch up on your holiday reading poolside.

The ideal location for all options

Pool or beach, hiking or sightseeing? With this villa you can do it all.

The villa has two ways to enter: the first is directly to the house (from the track off the main road), and there is ample space for car parking at the front of the property. The other way in is by a path past the owners’ stables, indoor riding arena and their vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to visit the horses (seven at the last count), there are also some geese and a stable cat or two.

The location of this sunny cottage keeps your options open, depending on what you’d like to experience on your holiday. This villa is the perfect choice for those who’d like a relaxing countryside holiday by their pool but with an easy option to visit the beach (30 minutes’ drive to the coast), perhaps take in a cultural day to Ronda (40 minutes’ drive inland), or dine out in Gaucín and not have to worry about driving home!

Bookings at this property usually run from Saturday to Saturday but please ask about flexibility outside of high season.

The pool is open all year but as it is not heated the swimming pool season is from late April to late October.

Pets may be accepted, please ask.

 Services Information

Additional maid/babysitting, horse riding and cooking service are available on request in advance, paid locally.

During the colder months there is a heating supplement of 100 euros per week payable locally on arrival. A small amount of firewood is provided by the owner on arrival but more can be bought locally for the duration of your stay.

Linen is changed once a week.

A light mid stay cleaning is included in bookings of 2 weeks or longer.
