Natural beauty and wildlife

Bordered by the Natural Parks of Sierra de Grazalema and Los Alcornocales, it's an unforgettable landscape.

The countryside around this villa is absolutely stunning. This part of Andalucía, around Gaucín and the Natural Parks which border it, is particularly beautiful. Soft, green meadows rise up to jagged limestone peaks which are home to eagles and wild mountain goats. Set in a large estate of 200 hectares (500 acres) is this impressive villa, with its stone tower and pink walls which glow softly in the sun.

The villa is totally private, accessed by a country track and entered by security gates.

The villa has five bedrooms and can accommodate 6 to 10 guests. Three bedrooms are in the main house on the first floor (two doubles and one twin, all have en suite bathrooms with a shower). The other two bedrooms are in an annexe which is a newer addition to the house. These two bedrooms each offer a four-poster bed (1 double, 1 twin with beds pushed together) and an en suite bathroom. Please note that these two bedrooms are offered as part of a larger group booking and not for a booking of 6 guests or less.

A swimming pool with a mountain view

The pool is only a few steps from the house and has views of the Serranía de Ronda.

The villa has a swimming pool in a natural setting. It is surrounded by a well kept lawn which turns into what could be called a meadow, bordered by shrubs and mature trees. The pool is a good size (10 x 6 m) and access to the water is by shallow steps. But best of all is the view from the pool and the sunloungers – as far as the eye can see – a great big blue sky, rolling green hills and mountains in the distance.

Such is the quiet and extent of the estate, you could be the only person left in the world!

You enter into a large entrance hall which is decorated in a traditional Andalucian style with terracotta floor tiles and colour-washed walls. To the left is a living room, unusual with its steeply pitched ceiling and arched window looking out to the pool. It’s like a little chapel in design, but the ambience is cosy and snug, with two sofas and an armchair arranged around a coffee table. To the right of the hall is the dining room which can also be accessed from the kitchen.

Such a pretty spot with vast areas to explore

Although Gaucín is becoming well known, its surrounding villages remain a secret.

The second, larger living room is straight ahead. This room has a glass-fronted fireplace and an ‘L-shaped’ sofa in front of a flatscreen TV. At one end, this living room leads out to the garden and pool, the other end leads to the kitchen and, in turn, the dining room. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, ceramic hob and oven. Although the kitchen and this living room are a little on the ‘retro’ side in style, they are comfortable and clean.

At the entrance of the villa is a fantastic sun terrace, furnished with a circular dining table and chairs. Here you can enjoy eating with friends and family while marvelling at the mountain scenery in front of you. Dining with this view doesn’t come much better. There is a garage under this terrace which has an interesting feature, a Roman oven! This relic from ancient times was preserved while the house was built around it. The property has plenty of space for outdoor car parking.

The nearest village to this property is La Cañada del Real Tesoro, 4 km away, although you’ll find more facilities in the next village along, Cortes de la Frontera. The road is the one which leads to the famous city of Ronda (not to be missed!), skirting the borders of the Natural Park of the Sierra de Grazalema and taking in little-known pueblos like Benaoján on the way. Benaoján is one of the stations on ‘Mr Henderson’s Railway’, a single track 19th-century line from Algeciras to Ronda. The romantic train journey takes you through spectacular mountain scenery. Gaucín, perched in the high sierra, is a picturesque village with a good variety of bars and restaurants to choose from.

The Sierra de Grazalema, designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve, has its own attractions for nature lovers. Miles of hiking trails are to be had in over 51, 000 hectares of unspoilt forest. To the south of the villa, the beaches of San Luis de Sabinillas and Estepona are within easy reach for a day trip.

More about this region

Ronda and Mountains

Ronda and its surrounding landscape has all that is symbolic of Andalucía—the land of passion, literary inspiration, bullfighting and romantic bandit stories. Its famous Puente Nuevo bridge, spanning El Tajo gorge, is unforgettable. Ronda is a magnificent city with a rich culture and history but this region also offers beautiful countryside, picturesque white villages like Gaucín, and the sea which is near enough for a day at the beach.
