This romantic little cottage is for two guests, and comes with a lovely private pool and gardens. It’s not often we find a cute little hideaway with such a good sized garden and swimming pool … but we have one here.

The villa is one of a number of houses found on a superb private estate (120 acres) between Gaucin and El Colmenar. The estate is just 7 kilometres from Gaucín.

Surrounded by undulating woodlands, rich with cork oaks, carobs, olive, meadows, valleys and open space as far as the eye can see.

The drive to the house is easy; it’s off a country road to Colmenar and is just a short distance down a well maintained track.

It’s the perfect place for a quiet escape for two. Here you will be in total peace and harmony with the nature around you.

Original structure and features have been preserved

The stone floors, ceilings, the whitewashed walls, it is all modest, simple and totally delightful.

The original farm structure has been maintained with two little stone buildings being connected by a covered, furnished dining terrace.

The smaller of the two buildings houses the newly fitted kitchen, equipped with everything you would hope to find in a self-catering cottage.

A few metres away, on the other side of the terrace, the larger of the two buildings houses the cosy sitting room and the bedroom with a generous double bed and en suite shower room.

The entrance to the cottage is picturesque and uses the existing original rocks as part of the front garden landscape. The house is in the shade of a majestic tree, its gnarled trunk and branches have a fairy tale quality.

A shaded car port is at the side of the property, up a little drive from the main track.

Under a grand old tree

Through the entrance gate, you drive into the private garden set just above and behind the house – with a covered car port for one car. From the garden a few steps take you down to a covered dining terrace under the branches of the mighty tree. Here you can sit looking out to the blue sky between its branches and watch the numerous little birds that live in the tree come and go. This terrace, between the living room and the kitchen, is the perfect spot for al fresco dining, tapas or just a peaceful moment under the green, leafy shade.The terrace has night lighting for dining out on warm summer evenings

 

The kitchen has been recently refurbished and is gleaming with its black stone worktops and yellow tiled splashbacks. All the fittings are contemporary but are in keeping with the cottage style. The kitchen has a table and chairs if you wish to have meals indoors.

The kitchen appliances are new and as you would expect consist of: hob, oven, microwave and fridge-freezer.

Inside it’s tastefully decorated

The interior of the larger building houses the living room, double bedroom and the bathroom.

The living room is cosy but elegantly decorated. It has a sloping ceiling and traditionally thick walls to keep you cool in summer. There is a two-seater sofa and a glass-topped wooden ottoman chest acts as a coffee table.

For entertainment there is a TV, DVD player and a large collection of books in English under the TV cabinet. The house has the benefit of WiFi and central heating (see Notes below). A large wardrobe sits in the corner closest to the bedroom.

The living room leads directly to the bedroom.

This double bedroom is nicely decorated and has a solid wooden bed, ceiling fan and central heating radiator like the living room. The small cottage windows look out to the lavender border just outside. There is also a small table with a jug and basin and two bedside tables, each with a lamp.

A grand pool and private garden

The garden and swimming pool are an impressive size for a little cottage.

Hidden away, a few steps up behind the house is a big lawned garden and private swimming pool (7.5 m x 3.5 m). Surrounded by mature trees, it has plenty of shade, table, chairs and sun beds to lounge away the hours.

For sure, this glorious setting is where you will want to spend most of your time when you’re not out sightseeing.

The gleaming turquoise swimming pool is accessed by steps. The pool is bordered by the steep hillside forming the boundary to the house. The slope is planted with trees and bushes: hollies, holm oaks, daisies and rock roses.

The garden to this property is one of its most delightful features. The owner is a keen gardener, with particular skill at growing and appreciating roses. The cottage gets full benefit of her green fingers as displayed in all the colourful flowers and shrubs.

A haven for birds and butterflies

It’s all so quiet, nothing but the buzzing of bees and singing of birds.

And finally … the bathroom. The bathroom of the property leads off from the bedroom.

It’s all done out in white and chrome so the effect is clean and bright. The facilities include a walk in-shower, large mirror, heated towel rail, WC and washbasin. With its stone floor and whitewashed walls, the effect is traditional and authentically rural. A small window for ventilation looks out, like the bedroom, to the lavender border.

This region is really such a picturesque part of Andalucía. To get to this house from the coast, you head inland, towards the mountains to Gaucín, the village is in the distance like a white crescent between two peaks.The drive takes you through meadows and pastures (you’ll probably come across some shepherds tending their flocks of goats) as the road climbs slowly upwards. The scenery is a fitting start to your holiday before you even reach your villa.

The estate owners live on the estate in the main residence and they really care that their guests get the maximum enjoyment out of their stay.

The cottage is near another estate house (RM 48 is close by) and although close each property is entirely separate and apart.

Another rental house (RM35) is also available. Each of these properties is independent and there is enough space and seclusion for everyone! Please check out the three cottages for larger groups.

Bookings at this property usually run from Saturday to Saturday but please ask about flexibility outside of high season.

The pool is open all year but as it is not heated the swimming pool season is from late April to late October.

Please, no smoking in the house.

Pets may be accepted, please ask.

Please note that arrival time must be before 10 pm for this property.

 Services Information

Additional maid/babysitting, horse riding and cooking service are available on request in advance, paid locally.

Linen is changed once a week.
