Roofscapes, a pool and jacuzzi

The house overlooks the roofs of Gaucín, it has space for a small swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi.

In the centre of the picturesque village of Gaucín is a traditional old townhouse which has been carefully restored. The style is in keeping with the charming village, white walls and pots of flowering plants keep the Andalucían character alive.

The front door opens directly onto the ground-floor parlour, and the many other rooms are found further in and on the floor above.

Built on three levels, there is room enough for a pool terrace and a jacuzzi on the roof.

The roof terrace, with the jacuzzi, is at the top of the house and has been arranged to be like a garden, with plenty of flowerpots, little orange trees and bonsai.
The views of the Mediterranean sea from this terrace are superb. There is a hot shower on the terrace and bathrobes are supplied. A small table allows you to have a romantic meal before or after your soak.

Looks can be deceiving

What looks like a small townhouse on the outside, goes large on the inside.

From the outside, the house does not look big enough to have three double bedrooms and a pool terrace, but these village houses have a way of tricking the eye! The house is on a quiet road with space for parking.

The ground floor parlour has a dining table seating four and a sofa which doubles up as a sofabed, suitable for an adult. Off this parlour is a small-ish ground floor bedroom with twin beds.

The kitchen and a bathroom (with bath tub and shower over) are on the ground floor, as is an internal patio which houses the washing machine.

The decor style throughout the property is of a typical Spanish cottage, antique pieces from the old house have been used to good effect along with traditional needlework.

On the next floor up is the living room, the main bedroom, the second bedroom and the swimming pool terrace.

Lounge in the sun

Sunbathe on the terrace then cool off with a dip.

Although the swimming pool is not large (4 m x 3 m) it is ideal for a dip on a summer’s day and relaxing to be next to. The terrace is not overlooked by any neighbours so you can sunbathe in private. There is space for two sunbeds and an umbrella on the terrace.

The main bedroom has a double bed and windows which look out to the street at the front of the house.

The second bedroom also has a double bed and is furnished in the same way with antique bedsteads and whitewashed walls. Given the traditional layout of the house, none of the bedrooms are en suite but there is a bathroom on this first floor with a shower, wc and basin.

The living room on this first floor is lovely and sunny. Cosy and comfy, it has a woodburner for winter rentals, TV, armchairs and two sofas. The living room opens out to a terrace which has a table for four.

The atmospheric view from this terrace is across the terracotta rooftops of the village.

An ideal location for many activities

Gaucín is well served for restaurants and bars as well as days out to Ronda and the coast.

Gaucin is a delightful village, roughly half an hour’s drive inland from the Mediterranean coast.

There are things to see in the village: the ancient ruined Eagle’s Castle on its hill (a steep climb but worth it for the views), its church and authentic narrow streets. It really is an authentic pueblo blanco with an ‘arty’ feel.

The town has a good choice of restaurants and bars as well as amenities like cash machines, pharmacy and shops. The house even has a small supermarket at the end of its street.

The location of this house makes it an ideal base for hiking in the surrounding Genal Valley. The valley is on a migration flight path so it’s great for birdwatching too.

A forty minute drive further inland is the stunning town of Ronda.

The impressive bridge over the gorge is a sight not to be missed. With its rich history, famous bullring and bandit-legends, no wonder Ronda has been the inspiration for writers and artists over the centuries.

Bookings at this property usually run from Saturday to Saturday but please ask about flexibility outside of high season.

The small pool is open all year but as it is not heated the swimming pool season is from late April to late October.

Please, no smoking in the house.

Pets may be allowed, please ask.

Additional maid/babysitting and cooking service are available on request in advance, paid locally.

Linen is changed once a week.
