On a splendid private estate

This centuries-old cottage has been sympathetically restored to keep its character and charm.

More than 250 years old, this lovely, rustic cottage has been fully restored while preserving many of its original features.

Just eight kilometres from the village of Gaucín, this cottage is on one of the most splendid private estates to be found in Andalucia, 120 acres of gorgeous Andalucian countryside with stunning views.

Reached by a 400-metre country track, a short pathway leads up to the cottage. The track is well maintained and easy to navigate. You drive right onto the property, through double gates and park under a covered parking area. There is room for two normal-sized cars.

The current owners bought this house when it was a rural building – the farmer was retiring – to turn it into a lovely place to stay. Originally there wasn’t even a staircase to the first floor, but now the ladder has been replaced with stairs which lead to the spacious master bedroom suite.

Stone flagged floors with rugs and whitewashed walls are the theme throughout the cottage, as befitting a period dwelling of times gone by.

A wide, shaded terrace runs along the length of the front of the house, the perfect venue for outside dining and relaxation.

Tasteful décor

Ceramics, pictures and oriental ornaments are used sparingly but tastefully in the living space.

You enter into the dining area of the main living space. The living space is divided into a comfortable living room at one end and, three steps down, to the dining area at the other.

The dining area has a glass topped dining table seating six, a large wall mirror and two wicker armchairs. It also has the benefit of a ceiling fan and central heating radiator.

The living room is very comfy and cosy with a three-seater sofa, an armchair and footstool. There is a large open fire in the corner (as well as a central heating radiator) and a wooden cabinet for glassware. For entertainment there is a TV with a DVD player and a large collection of books for holiday reading. French doors from the living room lead directly to the pool terrace.

All the main rooms in this house are on the ground floor, with the master bedroom suite being the only room on the first floor.

Soft cotton sheets

All the beds in this villa, have top quality cotton bed linen - smooth and soft and sparkling white.

To the rear is the spacious, newly fitted kitchen complete with all mod-cons. The kitchen is very smart, all done out in white and yellow with black stone worktops. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the utensils and pans you’d need for a comfortable holiday stay.

The washing machine and dryer (iron and ironing board and another dishwasher) are in a separate laundry room.

From the dining room, a few steps take you up to a light and cheerful twin bedroom, with an en suite shower room.

This bedroom has the traditionally thick walls of an Andalucian country cottage to keep the interior cool in summer. Furnishings comprise a night table and two bedside lamps, a tall boy cabinet, wooden chair, armchair and two portable fans. There are two small, shuttered and curtained windows, one of which looks out to the rose beds at the front of the house. The en suite bathroom is decorated all in white. It has a walk-in shower, WC and washbasin as well as a big, brightly lit mirror.

Just stop and listen ...

... to the wonderful variety of bird song and the humming of the bees.

Upstairs is the huge master bedroom. It is wonderfully spacious, complete with a teak double bed, a day bed, a dressing table and a writing desk. The sloping ceilings with exposed beams and wooden floors add an extra helping of delightful rustic charm.

The front terrace leads onto the inviting (7.5 m x 3.5 m) pool and the terrace at the side of the cottage. Behind the pool area, the rocky landscape rises up, creating a natural backdrop to the south and the far reaching, wide open views. There are so many mature trees and shrubs which provide shelter for birds, you’ll be able to spot a variety of species just relaxing by the pool or lounging on the terrace.

All in all, this is another heavenly spot, peaceful, secluded and surrounded by outstanding natural beauty.

The third bedroom, a comfortable double bedroom with the benefit of an en suite shower room, is in a separate annexe to the side of the cottage. This annexe has the benefit of the owner’s expertise with roses – a country cottage flower garden with roses around the door is a pretty welcome to this bedroom.

Steeped in history and with a warm, truly rustic ambience throughout, some discreet modernisation has been added: central heating (payable locally), ceiling fans, TV, wifi and a well-equipped kitchen, just to name a few.

The estate owners live on the estate in the main residence and there are two other rental cottages (RM35) and (RM39) also available. Each cottage is independent, there is enough space and seclusion for everyone! Please check out the three cottages for larger groups.

More about this region

Ronda and Mountains

Ronda and its surrounding landscape has all that is symbolic of Andalucía—the land of passion, literary inspiration, bullfighting and romantic bandit stories. Its famous Puente Nuevo bridge, spanning El Tajo gorge, is unforgettable. Ronda is a magnificent city with a rich culture and history but this region also offers beautiful countryside, picturesque white villages like Gaucín, and the sea which is near enough for a day at the beach.
